The Franklin Street Sleuths
Mystery Book Talks evolved from
“Detecting Women,” a successful
2001 program funded by the
Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
Now held 10 times a year, this
series attracts enthusiastic
mystery lovers who enjoy
comparing notes on designated
books. Each spring, summer, and
fall titles are selected in
different genres of mystery
(historical, cozy, hard-boiled,
etc.) in order to expand the
horizons of readers who may be
familiar with only one or two
types of best selling
“whodunits.” Participants may
purchase copies of selected
books at a nominal fee or borrow
library copies.
Book discussions for each series
are scheduled at three to four
week intervals on Thursday
evenings in the Library’s
Reading Room. Participants,
guided by librarians who serve
as facilitators of the meetings,
engage in lively, usually
laughter filled, analysis of the
assigned works and refreshments
are served. The atmosphere is
relaxed and friendly.
The book talks
are funded in part by the
Friends of the Osterhout Free
Library. |
