The Osterhout
Free Library offers FREE
wireless access for library
patrons using their own personal
laptops.
Q. How can I use
wireless Internet at the
Library?
A. Most users can
bring their wireless-enabled
laptop computer to the library.
Check in at the Information
Services desk. First time users
will need to show identification
and sign the Osterhout Free
Library Internet Acceptable Use
Statement. You will be given a
user name and password which
entitles you to use the
Library’s network for two hours
that day. The Library cannot
guarantee that your equipment
will work with the Library’s
network.
Q. How does it
work?
A. Wireless
access points located at the
Information Services desk
communicate with your wireless
device. You should be able to
connect on the main floor of the
building.
Q. Will I need
any special settings or
passwords to connect?
A. Browser should
be set to allow pop-ups. No
other special settings are
needed. You will need a
user name and password,
available at the Information
Services desk at the Library.
Q. Is my
Information safe while using
wireless?
A. Your
information is not protected
while using wireless.
Information sent from your
laptop can be captured by anyone
using a wireless device and
appropriate software.
Q. Are there any
restrictions on my use of the
Internet?
A. Wireless users
agree to abide by the Osterhout
Free Library Internet Acceptable
Use Statement which prohibits
abusive or illegal activity
while using the Library’s
Internet service. All Internet
use through the Library’s
wireless network will be
filtered using the same criteria
as the filters on the Library’s
computers.
Q. Can I print
while using wireless?
A. Printing is
not available through the
Osterhout Free Library’s network
for wireless users.
Q. Can I search
the Library Catalog and Library
databases using wireless?
A. Yes, these are
available from the Library’s
homepage at
www.osterhout.lib.pa.us.
Q. Can the
library help me configure my
computer?
No, Library staff
is not able to provide technical
assistance for any equipment or
connection to the system.
Everyone’s computer is different
and you are responsible for
knowing how to configure your
own equipment.
